thanks for the feedback guys.

again though are there a few particular sites u guys use to get legit OEM parts? chances are I WON'T be touching the car but in the event that one of my friendly shops or a shop that I get hooked up with does do the work, they might end up letting her use her own parts. my mechanics have ALWAYS let me buy my own parts and supply them so it makes my expenses much less severe. i can get discount vw parts at cost and audi parts at cost+15-20%.

thanks again!

The question I have, is the reason her parents don't like you the fact that you spend way too much time on the internet.
You opened, and closed a thread, and got a mechanic to look at the car all in a day, between 2AM and 10PM. LOL

depends on the language in the insurance policy , in New York , if damage is more than the book value of the car. Owner of car (your GF ?) gets a check and insurance company gets car. Don't know if you can buy car back , but I do know wrecks that are totalled disappear quickly so move fast if this is the what you are going to do. good luck

thanks for advice guys.

she has brought it to a local body shop to have the work done. they are reputable... i recommended them and so did her insurance company. unfortunately she won't be able to make out with any $, but thats okay.

if it was me, i would have done it a bit differently.
