Purchased a used '06 Mazda3 GT Hatchback. Soon after noticed airbag lite coming on often and seatbelt chiming while driving sometimes with the seatbelts on. Took to Mazda for diagnosis. $1000 later they have determined that the seats in the car are from an 04 Mazda of some sort. In the $1000 we purchased a new seatbelt 'clip' for the drivers side seatbelt so it matched the seat - but no luck on the chiming issue. Managed to clear the airbag lite but not the chiming AND now the chiming is constant and only when the seatbelts (driver and passenger) are clipped in. If neither are clipped in the car doesn't make a peep. Mazda says its unfixable but they can't even tell me what the problem is.....I have been calling Salvage yards to try and find 06 seats to put back in the thing, but am a little leary to pay the big bucks for those ($300/seat cheapest found so far) to find out that it won't correct the problem. What is happening really anyway....weird. The chiming is driving me nuts and I can't sell it...who would buy it this way!
