I can get 2.0L Mazda Protege Adjustable Cam Gears for around 200$, will they fit the 3 and is it worth getting?

I'm not completely sure about this, only pretty sure that they will not work.
Different engine family and the Protos did not have VVT.
A few years agosaw a thread where someone had installed gears meant for a Focus, but as I recall it was quite expensive and didn't turn out like he wanted. In fact, iirc, he bent valves, or some other serious engine damage had occurred.
I haven't seen that anyone offers cam gears for the 3, but I could easily be wrong about that.
Do a search and see.

i saw a car on car domain that said he had them but didn't state anything specific he just said cams.

oooo so this what your talking about dragoon i don't even remember me putting this thread up its been so long BUT i was looking on ebay i think and they had a auction up for it.

i dont think they will work

altho, i beleive the newer style mazda mx5 have different cams, but they have the same engine.
so you can always get some stock mx5 cams, and use them in your mazda3, to free up a few hp.
