picture problems

how can i add pics to my avatar, they keep saying they are too big when i try? is there a program or something i need to get to shrink the photo size?

search for irfanview on google. that is what i use and it is good for resizing and quality control

I just resized mine with the program in Microsoft Vista's picture program.
