I haven't seen the little metal wires anywhere yet? Do I have a MAF sensor that can't be cleaned?

What have you figured out on your 89 theguy. I see you have several posts regarding stalling and not immediatly restarting. If the fuel filter was that clogged upit could have caused some fuel pump damage as the pump was having to work overtime tryingto push fuel thru the clogged filter.
Looks like you are also in the area of the Air Flow Sensor. Are you aware that there is a switch inside the air flow sensor that closes as soon as the air flow door opens slightly. This switch provides the ground path for the fuel pump relay coil. If switch does not close then pump relay is not energized and no fuel pump operation. To see if there is a possible fault in that switch causing your problems then just leave the Yellow connector jumpered all the time and see if the driveability problems go away.
