Default Oil leaking from timing cover?

I have an oil leak from the firewall side of the engine right behind the drive belt. I can see a piece of gasket sticking out and a lot of oil accumulating in the area. I'm not sure but I think it might be the timing chain cover. Is there a gasket on the timing chain cover? Is there supposed to be oil there? Any ideas as to where the oil is comming from? Thanks
