oil leak around timing cover
91 millenia 2.5.... plastic timing belt cover is cracked for some reason and is leaking a lot of oil. can probabley do some rigging to fix it instead of tearing the whole front of the engine off to replace the cover but my question is since its a timing belt should there even be oil in that area or do i have some sort of crank seal that is leaking.
not really sure all i know is that its a 2.5 liter.... leaking almost a 1/2 quart a day so its a pretty serious leak should know a little more tomorrow if the temp gets warm enough to actually high pressure wash the engine.... im kinda just assuming this is the area its coming from cause i noticed the cover that goes over the timing belt etc. is busted up pretty good and there is oil all over the alternator odd thing is that the timing belts not very oily... is it possible that the oil pan is cracked or something i hear that the alumminum oil pans they use on the motor bust pretty easily but how would that get oil all over the alternator
ok got lucky on this one, cleaned engine off and inspected for leak turned out to just be a valve cover that was leaking right by where the timing cover is. still cost around 150 dollars to get it fixed but thats definatley better than having to replace a crank seal...
