notable exception is the stupid, virtually impossible to read dipstick.
Designed by Mazda and madein a FoMoCo overseas plant (made correctly I might add.)

Man, you aren't over that yet? Might as well sell your car that's such a huge problem

FYI...the dipstick in my 2.0L is just like every other dipstick I've seen on every other car I've worked on (and that's quite a few different cars...)

yes the 2008 mazda 3 has come out. however im waitin on my mazda 3 in which i get in 10 days. cuz its on a train somewhere supposedly. well thats the dealers story but whatever. anyhow i agree with you on that one it doesnt matter what car it is but ford have been known for their flaws. but so have japanese cars. lol. and yes it was my parents influence. cuz dad drives a 2006 acura MDX and mom drives a 2004 acura MDX. (btw i payed for this car myself so dont think im a spoiled lil kid lol) but ive been around hondas all my life (except for a 1996 dodge grand caravan hehe) and now i chose a mazda 3 over a honda civic. i think that is pretty good. that i broke the chaiiiiin hahaha. anyway ya thats what it is. for now no mods are going on it. cuz i can barely pay for that and a cellphone and insurance and food and rent lol. but i may lower it in the near future and if anyone knows of any cheap rims let me know thanx

Fact - Plenty of other people on this board (and the mechanics at 2 Mazda dealers I spoke to about it) share my frustration with it.

Hey Jaimie,
Congrats on your new '08 man. I am waiting on mine to come in.
I was curious to know if you noticed any changes between the '07 and the '08.
Thanks...

Yeh i was worried about mazda being owned by ford as well. The dealer i bought it from obviously has had other people come in with the same concern becuase without hesitation he said that the only thing borrowed from ford realy in the new models is the v6 engine in the mazda6. So the 3 is almost 100% japanese seing as how its a 4 cylinder.

I hope you are kidding??? Change the oil every 750 miles.. keep it under 65.. Please tell me your kidding. If you really think your car is that fragile why would you buy one.

and buy the way, the 5-30 oil isa myth. there is no reason to use it. Just pour in 10-40 and your fine.

i did notice a few things with the 07 and 08 and yes i am also waiting on mine lol. 9 days and counting. but in the test vehicles i felt that the 2008 felt alot more agressive not sure why but it responded great and drove really well. i dont know but the 07 i liked it as well but the only colour they had in was electric blue and silver and i wanted the carbon grey soo i spent the extra 30 bucks a month (this is all canadian figures by the way cuz im from canada so i am figuring what you guys are saying when you tell me about oil lol) and bought the 2008. right now im drivin a 2004 acura EL. its not bad for a 140 HP car lol. but i am surprised that my dad did not force me into buying an acura or honda. it was his idea to buy the mazda so its all good. anyway i appreciate all your comments and if anyone has anything to add that be great thanx guys lataaa

I for one don't have any gripes with ford at all. My little 96 ranger still runs like a champ after all this time. I just did maintenance pretty regulary on the standard stuff and the car is still running great. Also my Acura 02 TL-S is a great car I love it a lot, but after 2 replacement trannies and a quickly approaching expiration of my warranty I am trying to get out of the car and it has kind of soured me on Honda/Acura. A friend of mine has a 3 and his brother has a new civic and the civic has had way more problems then the mazda so I would say you made the right choice Jamie.

Not clear, my bad ... do the FIRST oil change at 750 miles (to get rid of damaging new engine particulate rather than running with the crap in there for several thousand more miles), then at normal intervals going forward.

Keeping a car under 65 MPH (and keeping the revs down) for the first 3K on a new engine is a good way to help ensureitgrooves/settles properly. Mazda does say take it easy for 600 miles (page 4-7 in my manual), but is oddly silent on what exactly that means.

10-40? Way too thick. The manual (page 8-18) lists 5w20 or 5w30 as being acceptable. Much info out there suggestive that 5w20 is chosen only to marginally boost EPA MPG data, and is not a good choice to help the engine last.
