Default Mazda 3 won't start

Got my car stuck in the snow and after we pulled it out I found this part! What is it? And is it the reason the car won't start

How hard did you hit the snow? Can you take a couple more pics of the part?

Ya I figured it out it's the crankshaft position sensor, I have the part ordered and im going to install it when it arrives....I do have a question though, if I disconnect the battery and then install the sensor, after I hook everything back up will it affect the computer in the car?

Should be fine, it MIGHT run funny for a bit until the computer relearns the fuel management.
