Mazda 3 manual transmission shift cable damaged and no parts available
I am beyond frustrated with this issue.
At the end of September 2019 my otherwise perfectly working 2012 Mazda 3 stopped being able to shift. Had it towed to a local repair shop, who found that the shift cable, part number BFD1-46-500, was shot. They ordered one with the local dealer, but were told it was not in stock, and that there were none available in the US. I followed up with Mazda corporate, who confirmed this situation, and further told me there were 6 other unfortunate souls who had ordered this part and were now on a waiting list. After some hemming and hawing a rep told me that my local dealer would be receiving one the next week, which would have been October 23, 2019. Suffice it to say that the part didn't arrive, and the local dealer told me then they no estimate on when one might come in. In late November I was told there was an ETA for the part getting to the dealer circa January 23. 2020. That didn't happen, either. When I called corporate again they had no update, but said they would put in an information request. At this point it is the end of February, and I have heard nothing from them.
I've tried searching ebay multiple times for a used one, and contacted parts departments around the country that showed them on their order lists, but no one actually had one in stock.
So I'm asking here, does anyone have any ideas on either sourcing or repairing the part? At this point I haven't been able to drive my car for 5 months, and I'm beginning to think that I have an otherwise perfectly viable car that I am going to have to send to the junk heap.
This is the second Mazda I have owned, but at this point I wouldn't recommend one to anyone, and will certainly never buy another one myself.

Shop guys have rung the wreckers multiple times. Think they eventually gave up trying to find one.
Not sure exactly what is wrong with it. Think they said the cable near the attachment point was frayed and hanging up on the sheathing.
Any idea what companies do that kind of fabrication? Or at least what I should search for?
Thanks for the suggestions.
