key
can anyone tell me about what it cost to have a key programed? I can get a key for $17 on ebay but it needs to be programed. I really need to get a second key before I lose or lock the one I have in the car.

Since you only have one key you have to have the dealer program the second one for you. After you get a second one you can program additional keys (up to eight) for free yourself. When the dealer does the programming it takes about 45 minutes so most will charge you the better part of an hours labor for it. Most people pay about $50-75 for programming.
So I definitely suggest getting a third key once you get a second one programmed. That way should you ever lose another key you can just get another one and program it yourself vs. having to pay the dealer to do it again.

how do I go about programming the third key for free after I have the second one programmed at dealer and does anyone know if Ford can do the Mazda keys or just Mazda dealers? I live quite a ways from a Mazda dealer but only a few min. from the ford dealer.

Once you have two working keys the process is as follows:
-insert working key #1 and turn to ACC
-wait ~5 seconds until the immobilizer light (red car w/ a key) disappears
-remove key #1 and insert #2 within 10 seconds and turn to ACC until immobilizer light turns off.
-Insert unprogrammed key #3 and repeat the same process.
-repeat for every additional key to be programmed.
That's it.
As to Ford dealers I'm not sure if they can connect to the Mazda computer. Give them a ring and ask is the best I can say.
For the key I believe you can get one from dealextreme.com for about $9.... not sure what the shipping is.

Looking for a Locksmith in Washington DC/Baltimore area?
I have a 2001 Mazda Millenia. Recently misplaced the 2nd key.
I bought 2 blank keys. I am looking for a Locksmith that the Mazda users in the DC area know of, so that I can get the duplicate keys made.
Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.
