It's the replacement for the stock air filter and i have the 2.3 liter auto.

 

Alright...Lev I appreciate your response. Im new to the mazda 3 and I love it more than ever. What is your driving habit. Lead foot or light touch driving? If this k&n biz really is worth i would get it and post my own forum for my results

 

I've been trying to drive slower to conserve on gas, but when i felt the extra umf from the filter, i drove quicker and accelerated harder. It's hard to drive slow in this car, so i'd say i drive with aheavy foot.

 

lol...same here. once i got into my 3 and pushed the gas a bit. I felt that same umf...its very addicting...alright im sold. im gonna stop by the local autostore and pick one up

 

K&N always had good reviews....
on my last car I opted for a home made air filter, much cheaper then the K&N... but with the air filter and upped exhaust I not only got significant HP gains but also did get to have some more miles per tank.... these also are very commonly used for motorcycles, I'm putting one on my street bike and will also be putting one on the dirt bike before the season starts!!!

I guess if you do get benefits from it depends as you guys mentioned on how you drive, if you want to be conservative you'll be happy with the savings, and if you decide to be a mad-man(woman) you'll also be happy!!!!

 

hey guys, just a question! what mileage would be acceptable to do these changesto a recent new car\ only 1,600 miles \the k&n filter would work ?

 

Very interesting. I've really been trying to eek as much MPG as I can from the 3, with my best effort so far being 35MPG on a tank ('05 2.3L 5-door). I might just have to get a K&N and see if it helps me reach that elusive 40MPG.

 

If you get 40mpg, or anywhere closer to itout of a 2.3L 5-sp HB, I'm going to have to ask you to submit your calculator for a full examination.

 

Ya...35 mpg? Dude thats amazing, but we need to see proof such as type of driving you do, transmission type, highway or city, ect. Whatever your doing, dont be shy about telling the rest of us

 

I generally get 35-37 (no bull), pure highway with my 2.0 sedan, if I can set the cruise at 65 mph, and traffic allows me to not touch it.If there's some traffic, I need to do a little passing (or just want to), or am forced to drive 70 mph, then I'll come down1 or maybe 2.

But 40, that would be amazing if achievable, even pure highway, especially if it waswith the2.3.Another fact, the 5 door is heavier by more than 100 pounds versus the 4 door, which would shave the mileage of the 5 door a tad.
