Help New Mazda Owner
Hi all I’m new to the forum and just purchased my first Mazda in July. It’s a 2019 Mazda 3 with 48k miles.
This morning I had a total transmission failure without any warning. Had it towed to my local dealership and they informed me that it needs a new transmission. The kicker is they said that this repair is not covered by warranty now because the transmission was serviced by a non Mazda dealer back in May before I purchased the vehicle.
Do any of you have advice on how I can proceed? The dealership that serviced the transmission won’t send me the service records because they contain the previous owners information and it’s “against company policy”. It is however documented on Carfax.
Merry Christmas to me I guess.

Thanks for the quick reply. They changed the fluid it showed on Carfax. The dealership said it looks to be the wrong color and was overfilled so they won’t honor the power train warranty.
In it they need to show proof that the transmission was over filled by how much and exactly how that caused the transmission to fail.
I will love to read this explanation

As for the color this is what alerted me to "CLOANS" not a real in the classroom trained mechanic or AutoTech that looked at your transmission!!!!
Its those people that give individuals like myself bad raps and grouped into those idiot groups working in a service shop. The color of MAZDA fluid is different from the normal RED or even CLEAR ATF that are fully compatible and are in the group of ATF fluids that meet and /or exceed MAZDA ATF fluid requirements.
The only way to prove it was the incorrect transmission fluid is to have a sample analyzed. So if you get another denial get an oil analysis done. You will need get detailed statement how they determined a failed transmission due to over filling.
I will look forward to that explanation!!!
GET everything in writing from the dealership!!!!!!!!

Update: Mazda dealership still won’t budge as well as the dealer that sold me the vehicle and the Audi dealership that supposedly voided the warranty.
Per Mazda Service Manager:
”To whom it may concern,
On 11-29-2023 Mr. Hughes had his Mazda 3 towed in with multiple malfunction warning lights. Upon diagnostics found all codes set for the transmission. The tech removed the dip stick to inspect the fluid of the transmission. Upon doing so we reviled the transmission was over filled, the fluid was all the way up the dip stick. Also the fluid for this transmission is Mazda ATF-FZ. This fluid is blue in color and is also a lifetime fluid that is only service if a major component of the transmission is replaced. We took the liberty to check the car fax and found that on 5-6-23 Audi Volkswagen of Naples performed a transmission service as part of "recommended maintenance". Unfortunately, by doing so, said dealer has damaged the transmission and voided Mr. Hughes' warranty for a transmission replacement. Mr. Hughes has a video from the technician highlighting that the fluid is incorrect and that the level is over filled. Furthermore, the fluid that is in the transmission is very disclored as a result of the internal parts being damaged. The only repair to be made is a total unit replacement. The estimated cost of repair is $6371.25 and the transmission assembly is on back order from Mazda with no current ship time.”
I will try corporate tomorrow but feeling like I’m screwed at this point.
