Gas Gauge
Soooo,
Was wondering. How much gas is left in the tank when the warning light comes on?
Cause I chickened out last fri when the light came on and I was still about 20 miles from work(even though I'm gettin about 27mpg)

RE: Gas Gauge
Each one's going to be a little different due to production variation. I've driven an additional 40 miles with the warning light on and still ended up with about a gallon in the tank....
Best bet is to fill your car up as soon as the light comes on. Subtract whatever you put in from the max capacity of your tank, then you know roughly how much gas is in the tank once the light comes on.

RE: Gas Gauge
Thanks for the info
Another sorta related question.
You can't cause any damage to the fuel pump or anything else by running outta gas? Can you?
I mean other than an 18 wheeler runnin me over as I roll to an unexpected stop on rte 78[sm=oopssign.gif]

RE: Gas Gauge
It will effect on you fuel pump, only if you very very low on fuel and your are going 95-100 mph on the highway to make it to the closest pump by your house, well my buddy did it once, as a result pump broke. But if you are driving normally and you will have barelly any gas, the only thing you will have your car will try to shut down, let your foot off the gas and u good to walk or push, best way to do is keep your RPMs running, and u have a better chance of getting to a pump, but if you stop your ride will die on you, and u will have very difficult day or night. On most cars it all based on the mileage you get, 14.5 G tank on Mazda3, on the fuel gauge 3 main lines, 1. LOW FUEL, 2. MID full, 3. FULL. Full tank where the arrow goes beyond the full line, your tank will have 14.5 GL, when your fuel arrow gets to a LOW line, you still have 2 GL, meaning if you get 27 miles per gallon, you can drive 50 miles with the warning light on and before your ride will shutdown.
