Cylinder deactivation problem is worrying me
Am considering buying a Mazda 3 G25 Evolve in Australia.
Have read about the cylinder deactivation problems that led to the recall of more than 250,000 Mazda cars in mid 2019.
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/m...vation-issues/
I would like to know, is this still an issue for newly bought Mazda 3s? Or has Mazda fixed it for all new to be bought Mazda 3s?
Thanks.

I have a 2019 Mazda3 and do not have the problem. I have heard of others with significant problems. I am not sure how widespread the problem is and it does appear that Mazda is working on resolving the problem. It is impossible to guess if the changes they made fully address the issues. Only time will tell.
As for the recalls, I don’t look at them as a bad sign. I would rather have a recall than a company that avoids them. (Look at the problems the Ford DCT has caused for years and Ford apparently has known all along.)
I would still rather have cylinder deactivation over auto stop and a traditional automatic transmission to a CVT for reliability that other brands go with.
The old advice of don’t buy the first year of a new model for the best reliability was proven accurate with the 2019 Mazda3. I have gone against the advice for years and this is the first time I regretted the decision.
I would buy a 2020 with the hope that the problems have been resolved. I can’t say if it the right decision for anyone else.

Been almost 6 months, cylinder de-activation problem resolved?
Thanks for your comment, MazdaCPA.
After all this time, almost six months since the recalls announcement, anyone heard if Mazda has resolved this issue for Mazda 3s with cylinder deactivation bought now?
If no one has heard that this issue has been resolved, are we left to ponder Mazda CPA's comment about skipping the launch year of a new model if reliability is important?

Thanks, Grim_reaper. I interpret from your comment that the issue is still ongoing (though no stalls needing towing).
It also appears like Mazda corporation has NOT issued any statement that the issue is resolved!

I'm having vibration issues with my brand new Mazda 6 when it hits 80kmph. I took delivery of it on January 2022. I was told today there is a known issue with the Cylinder Deactivation System, which kicks in around 80kmph. My car is currently with the dealership while they fit a "part" to hopefully resolve the issue. They haven't yet told me what the part is to fix the problem. I will be test driving it again tomorrow and if the issue persist I'll be taking it straight back.
