Recently purchased new to me '08 3 S Sport w/ under 8K miles, automatic. When the car is turned on, in park and the brake is depressed (about to put it in gear), a click noise can be heard coming from under the gear shift box. Still while in park, press down and off brake, same noise. Once in gear all is fine...Anyone experience similar sounds?

 

You are hearing the Shift lock unlocking, you can not get it out of Park with the motor running without depressing the brake pedal first.
