Default Brake light Led broken

Hi, I have just had my 2006 Mazda3 Sport in for an MOT, and it's obvious one of my brake lights are not working. I've been told I need the whole £250 assembly. I have checked online, and I can find them for about £70 second hand. Is it not possible to change just the led unit in these? I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction if it's possible to save a bit of cash.

The mechanic advised that he has connected the assembly from the other side to the wiring and it worked, so can rule out a simple fault with the plug.

Its a sealed unit. No useable parts inside.

Default Spares

Thank you, that makes sense then. I've found a potential spare. It's from a 2006-2008 2.3 Mazda 3 MPS. The dealer says this will not fit, but based on the photos I'd beg to differ. Can anyone confirm this? From photos online the whole car looks pretty much like a 2006 Sport. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/191931790255
