Dude you are not going to win if you want to challenge my level of experience and education on the subject of Automotive industry in most any subject or capacity. LOL
I strongly suggest that if you are going to post BS keep it begging with your experience and observation instead of posting as if you have empirical and fact based information?
You are trying to cover your **** by trying to state bad information about windshield glass and impact locations. Clearly you need to spend a couple hours participating or actually being present when a vehcle is in a wind tunnel being air flow tested?
No its not common knowledge about how many windshields have quality differences. But hey if you think so please state a few things about what is so called common knowledge? Post that fact confirmed information material http so we can all read it. It will not be as easy as you think to find. Hint think "glass technical manufacturing specification"
Kia common knowledge about any subject says it all. rolmao. Dude nothing about KIA is common anything. But again, it shows where your head is at and it is JOE average vehcle owner not even a true vehicle enthusiast? I think I am embarrassed for you using a kia on any forum as any kind of example even on a KIA forum. LOL
You realize a better example would have been about BMW glass
At least some of us would not be laughing at your posting anything about a KIA. LOLWho in their right mind ask for other than OEM windshield glass from their insurance company. Most deny that request but NOT to ask for it. BTW SATALITE GLASS does not carry the best in the business of highest quality windshield glass. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find an owner or, manager or employee of one that is likely a true glass expert in the capacity of knowing all the composition of materials used and their quality, the Manufactuing of top and extreme quality and with the highest quality control in the business let alone their own stocked and preferred windshield glass.
To be fair, SAFELITE is a good business and has well trained glass installer. They carry a good warranty and have great customer service.
If scuttle plate you mean the cover for wiper transmission and motor at the base of the windshield that should be a yearly routine for DIY to service on all vehicles.

but a chip/crack on the edge of a windshield is not as annoying as one right in front of your face...so i would lean towards repair or leave it as is on the edge but replace if it's right in my face...but you say that's wrong...ok...agree to disagree
i would think most drivers can see glints from tiny chips on their windshield when they drive in the sun...i said it's common knowledge...you said it's not...you're probably right on that one...i should have said most drivers...i'm learning that everyone else's word choice is very important to you so you can jump all over them but at the same time your responses are not very clear to follow quite often
i think most people know that oem windshields are typically better than aftermarket windshields...i said it's common knowledge...you said it's not...you're probably right on that one as well...i should have said most drivers...i did provide 1 example where oem is not good so aftermarket was probably/maybe better with which i have had a direct experience dealing with...no i didn't go through any testing data about glass quality...all i know is the oem glass is not good so i'm not putting it back on the vehicle...if there is a class action suit about kia's glass chipping and cracking easily, i would think most people would say another choice would be better which leaves non-oem is the only other choice...whether this installer or that installer has better quality glass, i don't know and i don't care to spend the time to research it, cause like i said glass is free here so if it cracks again i just get it replaced again...i'm going to the closest glass replacement place and getting it taken care of...but it's been holding up quite well in comparison to the oem glass...the oem glass made if a few months aftermarket has made it ~3 years and we have had plenty of sand/salt on the roads each winter where it could have cracked...this is my anecdotal experience...if i had to pay for glass my thoughts/actions would probably be different, but i don't
carry on
glad it's providing enjoyment for you...i enjoy it as well lol...not trying to "win" anything...and i already previously stated that i'm not a mechanic so i wouldn't have that level of knowledge,

I never said that drivers cant see chips and other annoying imperfection in the windshield.

Not sure where you get this basis for a community its inaccurate. I know because servicing so many every day and every week I often point out windshield problems and 99.9% customers say I never noticed that.
So this is another example of you think so based on no facts, because you did that many other do and they don't. Also we contract with a couple of companies like SAFELITE that will come out and do replacement or repairs covered and uncovered by auto insurance of the customer and at times will point out more then the service crack repair to the customer and the customer often declines because as they say they never noticed it before!
i think most people know that oem windshields are typically better than aftermarket windshields...i said it's common knowledge...you said it's not...
That is a MYTH started in the late 70's dude. lol Couple things. Not all windshield glass in manufactured by the OEM. Many are contracted out to the same glass manufacturing companies that are used for aftermarket windshields.

here we go.... IN BLUE! Bottom line if you don't really know facts and empirical information and even proper service procedures expect that a few of us that do are going to call you on it. Being a internet surfer for information can get you more buried in your supportive responses because of who the author was of those www finds!
Think about what your education is (college or trade school) and if you were on a forum for that chosen profession or on this forum and some member posted BS contrary to what your empirical training and education as well likely years of practical experience, I am sure you would be like me and responding in a similar fashion!
Hey but please post a response in this thread and also take notice of some of the other members that did!
