Default BCM Issues on 2012 3?

Last weekend I bought my first Mazda, a 2012 3 iSport. It was in pretty rough shape (cosmetically) but I got a good deal for it. It only came with 1 ignition key (not including a remote, just the key) so I bought a switchblade key w transponder on eBay and had it cut. The locksmith offered to program and key and remote but was unable to get the car into remote programming mode for the remote. I have also attempted to program the remote myself about 12 times over the last few days but the car will not enter programming mode. I am using the Turn key to "ON" 3x, open and close driver door 3x and nothing happens. I have also noticed that sometimes the power locks will stick especially when using the lock button on the drivers door. Could this be a BCM issue? The iSport does come with a remote out of the factory right??

Are you certain its the right remote? There was at least two different suppliers used for your shape/series. Mitsubishi & another brand that escapes my memory.

I checked with the seller on Ebay and the listing shows that the remote is supposed to work with that years make and model. Even if the remote itself was the wrong model shouldn't the car still enter programming mode after the key and door sequence is completed? The locks are not cycling to indicate the car has entered the remote programming mode so I cant even program the remote to see if it indeed is correct or not.

You need to start with the door open, so its close open, close open, close open.

I have started with the door open on every attempt. I have done the following:
Drivers Door open, Key out.
Insert Key and turn to ON 3x
Close and open drivers door 3x
(No vehicle response)

Drivers Door open, Key out.
Insert Key and turn to on 5x
Close and open drivers door 5x
(No vehicle response)

I have also disconnected the battery for about an hour (while working on something else) and attempted the 3x door and "ON" with no luck.
