Question Key remote not locking/unlocking

My wife drives a 2013 CX-9, for a while she has been locking/unlocking with the key. This works fine. All doors lock and unlock from the buttons on the doors.
The remote does not seem to do anything. We did replace batteries a while back with little to no success.
Also, yesterday evening I attempted to re-program the remotes but I it was not successful. The remotes would not do anything when I attempted to push the button twice on the remote during this process.

Has anyone else has an experiance with the keys going bad and having to order new ones? Anything else I should check before trying to get a replacement key?

The keyfob allows the car to start? The red LED on the keyfob flashes when close to the vehicle? Looking to confirm that the keyfob is communicating with the vehicle or not.

I will double check for a red light on the key fob. I don't remember seeing that. I suspect that the key fobs might be bad.

If the battery dies, will it need to be reprogrammed? If I remember correctly, one died and I just gave the one working I had to my wife.

Update: I did not have a red light. So I took the battery out and put it back in. Now it works as it should (Red light and locks/unlocks). Maybe the battery became loose, not sure. Will keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.

My car is doing the same thing. Key fob isn't unlocking doors anymore but auto locks work fine every other way. Still see red light on key fob when I push buttons.

Could be a low battery. These things are super finicky that way.

Do you mean the fob battery or car battery?
