Default All blinkers on 1 side went out

2004 Mazda 3s

My left (driver) side blinkers were acting weird last week when I hit the lever. They would blink funny, or randomly, or not blink at all. It is the same for all blinkers (front, side next to door, and rear) Then finally they quit. I took it to a local mechanic and he couldn't figure anything out. I then took it to the dealership and they just called and said it is the light modular in the instrument panel. He tells me the whole panel needs to be replaced at a cost of $1100. Please tell me there is an easier fix for this? Thanks in advance guys.

not the instrument panel, check the connectors on the PJB (passenger junction box) behind the glove box. I've seen a few people with random electrical issues, and I think all your 'normal' driver inputs run to that for control.
