Default Clutch went out on my '05 mazda 3s hatchback

So my clutch went out on my mazda this morning and i took it directly to the mazda dealership in town (i was taking it there to begin with to run diagnostics on it since i bought my car a month a go just to see what i might need to fix in the future etc) well anyway, The mazda guy just called me and they want to charge me 1,300 bucks for Mazda parts and labor for the whole clutch set or if want after market 1100. Question is, should i bite the bullet and just go for it or should i attempt to do it myself? How hard is it to replace the clutch set (pressure plates etc) and are they charging me ridiculous amounts of money? I am still unsure how pricey mazdas are to repair. Thanks guys!

Ask the mechanic if your flywheel needs to be resurfaced/replaced as well before you consider doing it yourself, would hate to hear you changed the clutch only to fry it on the warped/grooved flywheel. Clutches arent that difficult from my experience on RWD cars..........FWD though I have no clue, just more garbage hanging off the tranny on a FWD car that needs to come off. In the end I think you would be better off having them do the repair since it would have a warranty for a time and depending on your skills and tools you own it may be faster also.
