Default Airbag Sensor Confusion

Nice to meet everyone, this is my first post here but I have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with as I am a tiny bit confused about a sensor I am trying to repair on my Mazda. I have a 2014 Mazda 3 i Grand Touring that I got as a rebuilt title and I made a couple necessary repairs including replacing the driver side airbag system (I bought it off an individual and didn’t due the greatest due diligence in hindsight) and recently after 3 years of owning it and it running no problem for the entire duration of that time I had the airbag light show up on my dash. I took it to a mechanic shop and they beat around the bush for a while and finally gave me the sensor PN that needs to be fixed. The PN was GMC857KC0A. I googled this and everything I have seen tells me this is the wrong PN. I told him that and he then sent me the error code which is B1417:13-8b which iirc is “passenger side crash zone sensor circuit open circuit or short to power supply” and initial research led me to BCKA-57-KC0A but then the mazda site said its not compatible with my car and that I should get KD35-57-KC0A and at this point I have no clue which one is right and I need any help I can get. It sounds like I should be getting KD35-57-KC0A but at this point I don’t trust myself with my research and I don’t get why the mechanic gave me such a wildly different PN. Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Welcome to the forum

Hmmm you get around but looks like you’re going to get the same reply here. Lol

Whomever you get the part from should be looking it up by your VIN. There should be
no guessing!
I would only let the parts department at Mazda look it up for you not service department. Three reason why..
1) Service department are not usually trained and or experienced in looking up the parts they need. They send a requisition to the parts department which includes your vehicle info and specifically the VIN
2) Parts department employees are trained specifically how to get the correct part the first time. This means they also know how to look up any superseded part numbers which is a normal happening. This may also be the reason you may have gotten different part number info. Dealership parts department will sell old numbered parts before the new superseded ones.
3) If by some slim chance you do get the wrong part the Mazda part invoice has your name and all your Mazda info which excludes the VIN so you will have no problem returning even if we’re first installed and found to be the incorrect part.
