I'm getting about 22mpg indicated by the computer, but I'm all intown driving and a lot of stop and go. I probably would have gone for a Speed3 but they only come in 6-speed and my car has to be able to be a backup for the wife to drive if needed, so I had to get an automatic.

Mine is automatic as well for the same reasons as Mark's car. I haven't had a manual since my 1999 323i. I don't know about you guys, but I'm disappointed in the gas mileage of my car. Cadmando18 is averaging 25 and he's got the turbo car and Mark is getting 22 (though mostly city driving). My 24 MPG falls right in the middle there. By comparison, my 9 year old Honda CRV with all-wheel drive is averaging 21 for the same route. Likewise, my '04 BMW X3 used to get the same as the CRV and it had a straight six. Hopefully, my service advisor is right and the mileage will improve over the next few thousand miles.

I typically do some things to every one of my cars to get a little better mileage out of them. After they break in, I switch them all over to full synthetic such as Royal Purple or Mobile 1. I switch all the fluids at once. I always at least put a K&N air filter in to replace the stock paper one. I air up the tires a bit higher than the 32.5 psi, maybe to about 38psi. (Check your max PSI rating on your tires!!) I keep the car empty, no extra crap in the trunk, even take the spare out because I have AAA.
I also usually run a fuel additive, like Lucus.

This probably isn't new information to anyone, but in my experience, all this normal stuff I do with my cars gets me an average of 2 to 4 MPG.

I don't know, but with a 21 City/29 Highway rating, I expected to be on the north side of 25 given the type of driving I do.
