Default 2006 2.3 A/C cuts out

The air conditioning in my 2006 2.3 works fine, blows cold on auto-climate control. I'm driving along in 5th gear (automatic) and I mash on the gas to pass a slower car. The transmission shifts down to third, the A/C quits blowing COLD air and the engine starts to run rough. The A/C light is still lit, the fan is still blowing, auto climate control is still lit, just no cold air. It will remain this way for sometimes 20 minutes or sometimes until I shut off the car at the next gas station 100 miles down the road. The only certainty is that when I rapidly accelerate and it downshifts to third, the A/C WILL quit blowing cold air and the engine will run rough. Any experience with this?

The A/C in my 3 turns off under WOT, it re-engages though once I let off the gas, my mom's old '92 Taurus would do the same also. The running rough though is strange, wonder if the A/C clutch is grabbing/releasing and giving the impression its running rough.........

Who ever said computers weren't smart! Max power with A/C off . If i'm going to want a good launch from a stop light I also make sure A/C is off. A/C eats power.
Running rough and not coming back on for a while is real weird. Something computer/sensor related is turning it off but not back on!
