2004 AC system question - Dealer BS or legit problem
A co-worker of mine had her AC compressor seize today.
She had it towed to the dealer for diagnosis. For a quick fix I suggested the belt, which is somehow still intact, be cut to isolate the system until it can be taken to a mechanic at a later date.
The dealer said that the A/C system is involved in cooling the engine and must be intact to drive.
So...
Can the A/C system on a 2003 Mazda 3 be disabled without any negative repercussions?

I disabled the AC in a '98 Protege. In order to do that I had to replace the drive belt with one that bypasses the AC compressor. You may have to ask a few stores if they have a bypass belt in their catalog. I got mine either at O'Reiley's or Advance Auto parts.
The belt also drives the water pump and the power steering pump.
