My 05 Mazda 3, now with 109,000 miles on the odometer drives fine except for what has become a notchy shifter (stick shift). Shifting up or down through the gears isn't as smooth as before. What can be the problem?

 

When was the gearbox oil last changed?

 

I'm embarrassed to say I do not remember ever. However, back in September 2018 (at 99929 miles in odometer) it was serviced for 100K interval minimum service, but there was no mention of gearbox lubrication in work order.

 

1st step would be to change the gearbox oil.

 

Thanks very much. Called an independent service shop (Mazda Dealership still closed due to Covid19) for an appointment. Keeping my fingers crossed.
