Cheapest Roof Rack/Basket Option Mazda 2/3
I've got a 215,000 mile 2004 Mazda3 that I love and a 2014 Mazda2 that I hate. I need a cheap rooftop cargo basket for the Mazda2. Preferably, it would be something that I can switch between the two of them. I live in sunny SoCal so drippy roof straps between the doors inside the vehicle are okay. Barring that, something that fits into the OEM cargo rack slots on the Mazda2 (there are none on the 3) would be okay, if it didn't cost an arm-and-a-leg. (IE, some cheap Chinese knock-off that fits those slots.)
Anybody know the best way to search for aftermarket roof baskets for the Mazda2? Maybe the name/designation of the type of roof rack slots the 2014 model comes with?
I'm trying to carry 2 kids bikes tied down to the basket (along with more bulky sporty stuff, some day) with 2 adult bikes on a strap-on rack on the back hatch. I'm not going far or over much bumpy stuff, and my rear bike rack is already questionable over 65mph, so this cargo basket doesn't need to be a rhino that can stand 62 hours at 80mph on a desert offroad rally.
FYI, my hate for the 2 mainly stems from it's lack of cruise control (wife's choice) and the fact that the gas mileage is pretty much the same as my 3! I do like how it was practically free, since Mazda couldn't give the car away during it's final model year sold in the USA.
Thanks!
