Warning Chime
I have an '01 Tribute (DX, 4 cyl, 5 spd). Has anyone come across a warning chime without any warning lights displaying in the dash while driving? It occurs intermittently while driving. Four sets of five chimes. A couple of years ago I had the air-bag light blink intermittently without a warning chime to accompany it while driving also and it would remain on until I turned the key to the off position. The air-bag light I solved by cleaning the connectors under the seat. Should the air-bag light normally be accompanied by a warning chime? The air-bag light does work when the ignition switch is in the "on" position during start-up.

The chime is an indication that the air bag light or one of the other warning lights has burned out. You may also need to clean the connectors under the front seats again (I did).

I checked the bulbs by watching which ones actually came on when turning the key on; then I pulled the gauge panel out and check the bulbs that did not light up with a meter (check for continuity, if no continuity then the filament in the bulb is burned out and the bulb needs replacing).
As far as the connectors under the seats you can use a small emory board or contact cleaner spray to clean them up.

I had the dash out to replace the burned out odometer bulb and figured I would do the airbag bulb as well since it does not light when turning the ignition on (to watch the indicators). It still does not light with the new bulb, so this is still ongoing. I just continue to clean the connectors under the seats every couple of months.

SRS
Turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the RUN
position and visually monitor the air bag indicator
with the air bag modules or restraint system
diagnostic tools installed. The air bag indicator
will light continuously for approximately six
seconds and then turn off. If an air bag
supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault is
present, the air bag indicator will either:
• fail to light.
• remain lit continuously.
• flash.
The flashing might not occur until approximately
30 seconds after the ignition switch has been
turned from the OFF to the RUN position. This is
the time required for the restraints control module
(RCM) to complete the testing of the SRS. If the
air bag indicator is inoperative and an SRS fault
exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of five sets
of five beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator
will need to be repaired before diagnosis can
continue.
