Default Transmission fluid and filter

Just got a (new to me) old Tribute. 2008 Mazda Tribute Touring with only 75 K. Auto. with 4 cylinder.
Want to change the transmission fluid and filter if it has one??
Question....How much oil is needed? Do I have to drop the pan? Is there a filter inside, outside or at all? Can I use Syn. or not? What type oil to use?
Anything to help please add.....
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I know your post was from a couple of weeks ago, but in case you still need the info.......These Tribute vehicles have a transmission filter that is NOT accessible without removing the transmission and disassembling it to get to the filter. It's not like the traditional transmission with a pan at the bottom that you drain, remove, then remove the filter which is right above the pan. I hate this kind of design. The only thing you can do is do a drain/refill or flush out the tranny fluid. Not sure about the 2008, but my family member's 2002 V6 ATM Tribute uses Mercon V ATF. Yes, you can use synthetic as long as it meets the fluid type requirement (probably Mercon V......check your owner's manual or dipstick handle).
