sun roof drain cleanout
I typically try to clean out my sun roof drains with 0.095"string trimmer string, and compressed air. After doing that,in my old 2003 Tribute, water seemed to come through them, but maybe not as fast as it should have. Dealer established that they were "heavily clogged", and want to do a THOROUGH CLEANOUT in which they actually remove the lines to do a complete cleaning. $500!! Is this "best practice"?

LOL I just saw you post!!
GENERAL SERVICE RECOMENDATION:
The hoses or lines only need removing if damaged or clogged. If you keep up on routinely cleaning them, they should last for years. Routine means every season change of in tomes that you know that accumulation because of dirt and debris in the air may have been higher than normal for your area.
I use and recommend using a slightly diluted mixture of simple green and then a rinsing and finishing with low pressure air not to exceed 30psi (preset the volume on compressor or pressure valve).
This is one of those area's that tossing out the service schedule and instead should be considerably more than what is recommended.
