Exclamation New recall as of 07/26/12 for 2001 - 2004

Autoweek just posted yet another throttle cable recall with the Escape. Tribute, same thing.

Older Ford Escapes recalled for sticking throttle - Autoweek

Heres an even better article.

that's very nice of them. i wouldn't bother for that old of a vehicle. prevents law suits maybe, but sounds like it would be hard to prove. also by admitting it the company doesn't look reputable. confused. monkey see monkey do. 1 company does it, the other must follow suit i guess.

I'm going to look at my 2004 Tribby tomorrow. I might mod my engine cover. What happens is the speed control cable breaks or a piece of it and gets jammed under the plastic engine cover holding the throttle open. So if theres no cover over the throttle cables, no more getting jammed. Fords fix is to raise the cover higher. How about fixing the speed control so it doesnt break????

Then another article says the since the FIRST recall in 2005, they bent the speed control cable from the original position so now it rubs on the top engine cover.

So either disconnect the speed control cable or mod the cover. Thats your 2 choices. Depends how much you like your speed control. I only use mine on long trips and love it so i'll probably mod the engine cover.

I fixed my Tribby. Took the cover off, I see there are what I call RIBS on the corners on the underside of the cover. Well thats whats making the cruise control stick. It gets caught on those ribs when at close to full throttle. So I took a dremel and grinded them down. Now the whole underside of the cover is smooth. No possible way for it to get caught on anything. Then I took 2 nuts and put those on each of the mounting bolts of the cover. That will raise the cover up just like what the dealer will do. Now with both of those mods, no way in the world can it stick. Even if the cruise cable broke, it would just lay in there dangling. No recall needed with my tribby!

I'm gonna wing it. I'll let it be. But if you hear of a young male driver having died in a Tribute 2003 V6 because of high impact onto a center wall...that was me
