Default Ignition

It appears the ignition barrel is worn out. The key will go in but most of the time will not turn. It grabs when the key is half out on removal. Would it be as simple as getting another barrel and keys from the wrecker and installing it. Thanks. If anyone had any pics of replacement process that would be great.

No, your key will have a transponder chip in it. It needs to be read & recognized by the immobilizer system.

Visit a locksmith, get a new barrel, get it coded to your existing key. Also it would be good idea to get new keys "cut to code", as your current key is probably old & worn.

Going to a locksmith should be cheaper than Mazda.

....or

Get a lock barrel from a breaker, use its mechanical key(s) and cut the old mechanical key off the old key transponder(s) (the black part), keep the old transponder(s) on your key ring and it should work fine...
