EGR Valve Issues
Hey all,
I'm pretty frustrated and looking for some guidance. I drive an '06 Mazda Tribute - About 6 months ago, my check emissions light came on and I was told it was my EGR valve. After checking out my vehicle, I noticed the hose was super old and replaced the hose. About two days later, the light popped on again, so I replaced the EGR valve itself.
The light comes and goes.
Six months later (to right now), I've taken my car to three separate mechanics (two well trusted), and they are all saying something different is wrong with my car. One is saying it's the sensor and solenoid with an estimated cost of $800, one is saying I need to keep driving it, and one is saying it needs to be taken out and reinstalled (?).
It has now failed inspection SIX TIMES. Today, the mechanic that viewed my car after failing inspection again (the light has stayed off for weeks, but the computers are still showing "Not Ready") told me I needed to keep driving it. Low and behold, 15 minutes later the check emissions light popped back on again. I replaced the battery 4 days ago because the battery became a problem on a recent test run, and I am at a loss of what to do since they are telling me the battery being changed is not why my computers will not reset.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Every time they run tests on my car, it alternates between nothing being wrong and it being the EGR valve. My annoyance is at an all time high.
