My 1999 Protege had an EGR valve replaced shortly after I bought it in 2000. It was replaced by the dealership because there had been a recall on that part. Now the engine light is on again and when I had it computer diagnosed they said it is the EGR valve. Anyone know about this issue? Also, general cost to have it replaced. Thanks.

 

May be there is a hole in the hose? I am not sure about this problem... I don't think it cost a whole lot to get a new one but not sure on that modle.

 

What size engine do you have in the Protege? Have seen a few faulty EGR valves but by far the biggest problem is restricted passages in the intake manifold that direct the Exhaust flow into the intake air stream. Also problems with the sensing port being plugged up as well.
