2003 3.0L V6 Auto LX. The cover is cracked. My concern is that if the airbag ever deploys, the cracked cover could break into small pieces like a hand grenade.
Is the cover part of the airbag, or is it a separate part that can be easily replaced? Has anyone else had this issue? Any input/thoughts/suggestions is appreciated.

 

The cover is part of the airbag assembly.

 

From memory the cover flips up when the airbag deploys, I think you will find a plastic inside cover probably intact with the padding and black outer cover on top so I think the risk of it breaking up on deploy et is very low but as said, if it concerns you I think the whole airbag would need replacing.
