Best replacement battery?
Our 2002 Tribute basically does a lot of sitting in the driveway, and may sit for as long as 3 weeks or so without being used.
Last year we replaced the original battery with another Mazda battery, but still have a problem every now and then of a dead battery. I can understand it during the dead of winter, but last week it was dead!
So, just wondering what a better replacement battery would be, as I guess the Mazda standard does not all that powerful a reserve.
Thanks,.....marc

Hi Marc,
First I would check to see if you have an excessive electrical draw. There should be a small load for radio memory, etc, but not much. Use a current/amp meter between one of the battery terminals and the batt cable, with a good charge in the battery. DO NOT try the starter this way.
If it turns out that you need another new batt, I would consider a deep cycle battery. Think marine battery.
Also, Optima batts are supposed to be good, but they are pricey.
Consumer Reports has consistantly rated Wal-Mart batteries among the best, and a best buy too.
DuraLast batts also rate well.

I would look at the Battery connections , I had a similar problem in that it would go dead. Replaced the battery and still had a problem. After cutting and replacing the main battery connections all is good for 6 months.
another thing to check if your interior lights are going out when you lock the car. When I closed the small tail window sometimes the swith did not shut off the interior light.
Good luck
