Smile 2004 Tribute 3.0L V6 Trouble Codes

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2004 Tribute V6 with 140K miles on it. No problems up until this time. I started it the other day and it seemed to be missing....as if it wasn't running on all cylinders. I drove it and it was a bit sluggish...sort of like it was hesistating.

I took it to AutoZone and they ran a check on it and two trouble codes came up. First one was PO316 - Misfire detected in first 1000 revolution window. The second code was PO305 - Cylinder misfire detected - cylinder number 5.

I have never changed the spark plugs, and have been told to start there.
Can anyone please advise me as to what steps to take. How do you change the plugs? Are there any diagrams or step by step instructions for doing this? Also I am going to replace the PCV valve, but I don't know where it is located. Also if I am standing in the front of the car facing the engine how are the cylinders located? Is it 1,2,3 and 4,5,6 in the back or vice versa?

Thank you in advance for any advice....this gal just wants to keep her car rolling!

Lu

Change all of your ignition coils as well---you'll have to shop around, Mazda is not cheap. Clean your MAF sensor, throttle body and EGR valve as well.
Your engine should be real close to mine.

If you want to save a little money now, you can change out the back ignition coil packs now, save them incase the fronts go and then change the fronts as they start to go.

I had to take the intake manifold off to get to the back plugs so might as well change out those coil packs. I think they were about $70 a piece when I changed them out a few years ago. This is why I didn't bother doing the front ones yet.

Good Luck.

Thank you both for the tips!!! I was so HAPPY to find out that my misfire was on cylinder 5 which is the middle plug in the front. I changed out the 3 easy plugs, and my check engine light went out, and the car is running fine again.

Now in the very near future I will attempt to change out the back 3 plugs, coils, and the PVC valve. I must admit I am a bit nervous about doing this If anyone knows of step by step directions, or a video, or anything that would help with this disassembly procedure I sure would be grateful.

Again thanks for the tips, you all have really helped this gal out bigtime!

Yes, thank you very much. Just checking to see if anyone else might have any additional tips before I jump into this task.
