Default 2003 Tribute Problems

Hi All,

I have had my 2003 Tribute Classic to the mechanics due to a clunk in the front end ie: going over spead humps plus they have found a cracked diff. After some advice.

They have advised the clunk is due to a crack in the rear engine mount. Common? Easy fixed? Any particular brand or genuine to purchase?

The cracked diff case I am told was up the top near the bolts/bracket and pretty severe. Common problem? What would you do?

Appreciate your hep. Cannot say I have found much information.

Cheers, Adam

Clunks over speed bumps are usually suspension related and not engine mount related, engine mount can be checked yourself by putting the car into drive with foot hard on brake then giving it some gas, if it clunks then its the mount if not then try reverse, if still no clunk then check suspension.

Thought I would add to this rather than start a new thread. My 2003 tribute had a clunk from the front end for over a year. I would bounce on the hood to check the shocks and they seemed fine.

Finally found some web sites that talked about the sway bar links going bad on Tributes and causing a clunk that could be miss diagnosed as shock or motor mount issues.

Replaced both sway bar links myself for about $35 in parts. Took me longer than it should have but the clunks are gone. Aftermarket parts have grease fittings and will add some maintenance but may also last longer than the OEM with proper maintenance.
