2001 ES V6 Transmission problem
I have a 2001 Tribute V6 and it only has reverse first and second. I drove home the other night and parked it. Woke up and drove off. At a dead stop while on DRIVE I would let my foot off the brake and it just sat there.. the torque didn’t move it and there was a hesitation when the gas was hit. Came home and parked it. Got back in a couple hours later and it wouldn’t go anywhere in DRIVE. How can a tranny go from fine to dead over night while off and parked? So I googled around a little and maybe it’s the transmission control solenoid? Any help would be amazing. Thanks

How old is the trans fluid and is the level good?
Does the range indicator on the dashboard indicate the correct gear as the selector is moved?
Your other post was on a 10yr old thread so I wouldn't expect a reply...
Ive had the suv for a year and I didn’t change it. Who knows how old. When I tried to put the lever in first it won’t go. But if I unhook the lever under the dash I can put it in first that way. I’ve googled around and saw a few random vehicles with the same issue and I’m seeing “transmission control solenoid”. Does that sound familiar? And 207,000 miles
Fluid level is good. Well last night I needed groceries and I live a quarter mile from the store.. I drove in second and had no problems. Otw back to the house I stopped at the stop sign next to my apartment complex and once stopped it wouldn’t move in first or second. Only reverse works. Now originally I drove it home and parked it overnight. The next morning it just revved up. No warnings. No nothing. I would think if it was a bad tranny it would’ve gave me some indication it was going bad. But no. So it’s got to be something electrical I would think. Check engine light came on a week or two before this happened so I scanned it after drive went out and the code was a P1409. Nothing to do with the tranny. I cleared it and now it’s back on. I will scan it again this afternoon.
Ok so I changed out the range sensor and I changed out the transmission control module (just the module. Not the wire harness). And nothing changed. I got the parts from pick n pull junk yard so I guess it’s possible it was bad already... I’m just going to tow it to Cottman Transmission since they will diagnose for free. It’s just a matter of getting it up there.
