Bike Rack For RX8

Bike Rack For RX8
I have been looking for a bike rack for my RX8 for a while. One done by Mazda also needs a 'bike rack extension kit' taking it to a total of over £600 for ordering and fitting which is worth over double my bike! Problem also possibly posed for other racks by RX8 boot as it is aluminium which isn't strong enough to support weight.
Any ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Bike Rack For RX8
good luck on this one. i posted a similar question back in may and never got any answers. it seems that a trunk mounted bike rack is not possible because of the light weight of the trunk, its proximity to the rear window glass, and the weakness of the trunk hinges. a roof rack is possible but that negates the use of the sunroof opening. in buying an RX8, the bike rack problem has been my biggest disappointment. i spent some time earlier this year in Moab Colorado a mountain bike paradise but couldn't take my bike because of the rack problem. my 2007 RX8 is nearly paid for, and if i trade it off next spring or summer it will be because of the lack of an acceptable bike rack. it was my dumbness that i wanted an RX8 so badly that it never occurred to me that it couldn't support a bike rack since every other car i ever owned would. live and learn.

RE: Bike Rack For RX8
Hi guys, and gals, this is my first post.
I have a 2007 red RX-8. Very cool, and a very practical family car (yup, 2 booster seats in the back!).
About the bike rack. I am a cyclist and the bike rack was a very important consideration for me. I went to a specialty car rack store and had a trailer hitch installed. It is a Class 1 hitch, which has a limited weight-rating, but it was fine for a light tray-style (holding the bikes from the bottom) bike rack. My bikes are lightweight road bikes, so I would not be subjecting the hitch to too much strain.
And my bike (for those who know a bright red Cervelo Soloist Carbon) matches the RX-8 perfectly! A very slick combination.
