Mazda designed the Rx-8 to be very hard to tamper with. They were tired of people over modding the Rx-7 and blowing them up. The sole perpose of th eRx-8 was to get peopel to realize that rotaries can be reliable so they didn't want people copmlaining about messing it up. If you are'nt a very handy person I would'nt suggest trying to work on the RENESIS as rotaries can be difficult for first timers and that one more than any other. The Rx-8s chassis is very very well built, I'd work on suspension and brakes and you'll have a mean autocross racer or a fun zippy car. If you have th eMoney HKS suplies an ECU override kit for ($2000) that lets you install the HKS Rx-8 turbo kit ($5,000) as well a sthe upgraded fuel system for the turbo ($1,300) and th eignition system improvements ($800) It all totals around 10 to 12 thousand dollars with labor if you are'nt a do it yourselfer. OTher than that maybe a CAI and some better spark plugs (for 05 and previous models) would be a good place to start.
