How long do you leave it running before shutting the engine off?

well you could have leaky injectors or low compression. I reccomend warming it during startoff for a minute or two, then colling it after driving for about a minute each time. the deflooding procedure is to pop the hood and look for th e"ENG INJ" fuse (fuel pump) pull it, crank, replace the fuse then crank again.

My beautiful 87 Turbo also has problems with a hot start. The compression was tested and normal. The car starts up cold fine, and starts up fine when it is hot and restarted right after the engine is shut off.

The problem occurs when the engine gets hot for at least 15 or so minutes of expy driving, then is shut off and not restarted for 15-30 minutes. It always starts (at least the first and second times) but then after a few seconds it usually dies. If I watch the RPM's carefully right after it is started, and they start dipping below about 700, I know it's going to conk, but if I pump and pump and pump the accelerator, usually I can get it going, and in a couple minutes the idle will stay up in the normal range and it is once again it runs fine. If I can't get it going by the third starting attempt, it has to sit 15 or so minutes and then it starts OK. I suppose I may be flooding it by this point.

My mechanic has looked it over a couple times and says he doesn't know what the problem is, but that he'll be happy to fix it if I can tell him what needs fixing. This car (which I just got a month ago) is a blast to drive, has a perfect body (which in Minnesota is rare) and I'd like to eliminate this one problem so I know I won't be stranded. I would sure appreciate any suggestions if any others have had this problem.

My car also starts fine the first time and then has trouble starting after that. I believe leaky injectors are the cause and as a temporary solution, I rev up to 3k rpms before shutting it down. This method has been working so far. Its easier than pulling the fuse to deflood it.
