well if the coolant is leaking, and you're getting smoke, that's just the hot engine buring off the coolant. It's a good thing it's not oil because excess oil would be prepping the car for a car-BQ. I reccomend you stay on top of your oolant levels and try and keep it full. Get a Mazda dealership to take a look at it, also find a regional thread from this forum and ask if anyone in your area would mind comming over to help you take a look at it and help replace/fix it. Offer free food, that's often enough persuasion. Hope I helped.

A white puff of smoke or steam usually indicates that coolant is getting into the combustion process. One very, very common problem with the older 12A engines running plain water in the cooling system is a process called electrolysis. Electrolysis eats a hole right thru the aluminum rotor housing near the spark plugs and allows coolant to then enter into the combustion chamber. There are a few ways to check for this problem. The first is to start with a cold engine and cooling system completly full. Radiator cap needs to hold normal pressure so a new one might be in order. Start the engine up and see how long it takes the upper radiator to get hard from pressure build up in the system. A normal system should take several minutes to build up pressure that can be felt at the upper hose. Leakage from the combustion chamber will pressurize the system very quickly, 30 seconds or so.
Another way to check if cap is not holding pressure is to again have full cooling system but leave the cap off. Start engine and allow to run for a minute. Now rev the engine up quickly to 4000 rpm. Normal operation will be that the coolant level drops as the water pump is creating a suction in the system that backs up at the thermostat. Leak from combustion chamber will create a geyser out of the radiator cap opening as the increase in combustion pressure introduced into cooling system increases greatly with RPM raised. Make sure you are out of the way when doing this check as I have had coolant (sometimes very hot) jet 3 feet straight up before raining down on you head.
Your leak is probably from the water pump or the hose that comes off of the water pump to the heater core.

No, that is not functional. that's just sopposed to spray a de-icing liquid in the intake or something like that. A 7 expert told me it was an ngineering failure and it hasn't worked sice the showroom floor.
