m about to buy a 1990-92 mazda rx-7 but i want to buy a new engine that has a turbo or twin on it but i got to thinking that turbos dont last for ever and that i could have a problem and end up having to spend more money on the car than i would have if i just save my money and buy a never before used (new) turbo from like slowmotion motorsports or something

 

Turbos will always need replacing, eventually. If that's an issue for you, you shouldn't buy a turbo'd car or turbo anything else.

However, stock turbos pushing low pressure can last a very long time, sometimes the life of the vehicle if you drive sensibly (see the old Volvo S40 1.9T). More pressure = more power = more strain = more cost. It's all a balancing act.

My recommendation? If you want a RWD Mazda but don't want to fiddle with turbos or spend the cash needed...time to find a Miata.

 

first things first, you are looking for an FC rx7. if you are going to turbo swap an FC, it is a lot more tricky than just bolting up a turbo kit.
