the 3rd gen was a twin-sequential turbo 13b-rew (rew-tt). the turbo 2 (t2) is the USDM version of the JDM 2nd gen turbo (hence, turbo II) released in the US between 87-91 (2nd gen).

the only major changes were the irons, motor mounts, turbo(s), and a bit of over-engineering, IMHO. other small changes were made, but mostly just to up-fit the new engineering.

reguardless from what gen it was in it is still from my understanding the better engine to start building a reliable boost engine.
