Will Codes Come Back after Battery Disconnect ?
Will Codes Come Back after Battery Disconnect ?
Question: Do codes come back after you disconnect battery, even if you Fix the problem. I know the code will still be in History, But if you fix the problem, then diconnect battery to shut off "Check Engine Light". Will the same code come back anyway since it was not cleared from the computer ? Thanks.

RE: Will Codes Come Back after Battery Disconnect ?
normally having the power cables removed from the system for 15 minutes will clear any code as long as the issue was correctly fixed.
if it is still appearing then either the issue probably wasnt fixed or you are attemping to fix the wrong issue
however things do happen and the code may still pop up.
(like your home computer says you dont have a program but its there, or comcast cable internet says their system is working and the issue is with your home computer, but come to find out its actually comcast's servers) (btw i work for comcast........... they as horrible as a isp and switch if you can because youre just going to get jerked around by tech support because we cant do anything for troubleshooting, not allowed to touch anything just power cycle and send techs out. lol its sad and if that doesnt fix it we can escalte the issue but we have to submit it to another tier and they look at it to verify it can be submitted then maybe your issue will be fixed in atleast a week.)

RE: Will Codes Come Back after Battery Disconnect ?
By disconnecting the negative battery for a few minutes you are actually clearing the codes completely from the engine computer. The only way one would come back is if another fault was detected.

great. thanks. but is there such thing as history codes that stay ? My Cadillac had these History Codes and the only way to get rid of them was deleting them from your computer seperately. Otherwise they remained in History.

There are no History codes left in the engine computer on a Mazda. Some ABS or air bag codes cannot be deleted by removing the battery cable on some models but not so with the engine computer codes.
