Default rough idling in cold weather

2003 protege....-10 temp. starting my car first thing in the morning the idling rough, the exhaust fumes smell like rotten eggs, the check engine light is blinking like crazy. The air input hose has been replaced. This an intermittent problem. After it has warmed up it run ok. Any suggestions.

Blinking check engine light usually = misfire and bad ignition coils.

Well, it is 12 years old. If your CoP's (Coil on plugs) are that old you can write them off. Are your plugs that old too?
Did you check for vacuum leaks? You took care of the air intake hose but there are plenty more opportunities to develop vacuum leaks.

no. You are demanding alot of hot spark to ignite when everything is extremely cold from an oe coil. Ignition coils fail and are not lifetime. I'm not sure about the supply from your battery either, but as soon as alternator kicks in it should be fine.
