Protege 5 front end problem/noise
I have a 2002 mazda protege 5-manual trans, all wheel disc brakes, no ABS, 130K+ miles: There's this persistant/annoying problem with something in the front end. Seems like it's the right side. Shop did R bearing, rotors & alignment 4 mons ago. Was OK, but now noise is back. I swapped the R bearing again, the noise remained. So I swapped whole R knuckle and R tie rod end that seemed like it might be a bit sloppy... but I still have same noise (& very slight shimmy in steering wheel). The noise is louder as speed increases and the sound remains even if free wheeling/out of gear. (L knuckle was swapped 1 1/2 years ago, as well as both 1/2 shafts-CVs). I'm afraid to drive it over 55 mph, don't want to cause further damage. I jacked up front end, let wheels spin-they seem to turn true, no apparent bubbles on tires. Any ideas? What else can be wrong?...making me crazy! I love everthing else about this car-agile & fun to drive, but...!
I have had similar problems for 8 months now. Had tie rod replaced 6 weeks ago, for the 3rd time, now making a "wub-wub" noise that will get louder, Anyone have any idea why this keeps happening after repeated tie rod replacements?
check into diffrential bearings and CV shafts, even if not torn the cv shafts can be bad, especially if you are on 130K OEM's
***NEVER*** lift a car and spin the wheels, the cv-shafts can fly apart from being at such an aggressive angle.
