Orange Color "CHECK" sign on dashboard

p0401 egr valve problem mazda prodege 2000

I getting orange colored symbol with "Check" sign below it on the dashboard of Mazda Protege 2000. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

auto zone parts store or equivilant can read the code and tell you what caused the CEL to light up

i checked with auto zone and the say its p0401 which is an egr problem. my question is whether i can do with cleaning of the egr valve or need to replace it? my car has 89k on it.
